Marco Sciascia - Victim Services Coordinator
Having been raised in Calgary, Marco moved to the island to do his undergraduate degree as a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Victoria. After graduating in 2020, Marco opted to stay in Victoria, having felt very at home in his years here thus far. Following graduation, Marco spent a couple years getting to know the diverse Victoria community, working initially in the Salvation Army Transitional Housing Program before running their in-house Drug and Alcohol Recovery Program; running all program operations, facilitating educational groups, and acting as a caseworker for all program clients. Marco found the experience invaluable, and it amplified his pre-existing interest and passion for work centering around trauma. Marco then came aboard the MTC team so as to be able to provide assistance to victims of traumatic experiences and help them to navigate the consequent impact on their lives in the way that works best for them. Outside of work, Marco enjoys running and reading to keep himself grounded.
Understanding that it is a big step for an individual to reach out for assistance, I recognize that different people will have different levels of comfort with topics and timelines when it comes to doing work with trauma. My emphasis is meeting the client where they’re at, and allowing them to take their time with the personal work they are doing, all while approaching ideas through a trauma-informed lens. The most important thing for me is getting to know you and your needs so that I can find the best fit for you among our fantastic team of therapists (if that aligns with your current needs), while simultaneously providing you with the supports and resources that may be of best help to you. It is my belief that everybody is deserving of compassion and support in a client-centered environment, and I hope to be able to provide this to you.
