Kristin Kowalko - Clinical Counsellor

Kristin is Kwakwaka’wakw from the Musgamagw Dzawada’enuxw First Nation and of mixed European ancestry. Kristin works remotely from Syilx territory, also known as Kelowna, and is hoping to move to Victoria in the spring/summer to offer in person sessions. Kristin completed her Master of Social Work at the University of British Columbia in 2022 and her Bachelor of Social Work at the University of Victoria in 2015. Kristin has worked in the field of mental health, substance use, prevention, and cultural competency for over a decade. Kristin is registered with the BC College of Social Workers as a Registered Social Worker and with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors as a Registered Clinical Counsellor.

Kristin brings warmth and compassion to her work with clients. Kristin is an eclectic clinician who works from a client-centered, relational, and somatic body-based perspective. Kristin is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and enjoys using this modality to support folks in accessing body-based knowledge and healing. Similarly, Kristin has completed a training with the First Nations Yoga Initiative based in Alert Bay, BC. She infuses her clinical work with learnings and Kwakwaka’wakw understandings about healing from this training. Kristin is comfortable working with folks from all walks of life and supporting individuals through trauma, identity, gender, grief, mental illness, substance use, chronic pain, burn out, and life transitions.

My specialities include: (intergenerational) trauma, PTSD/C-PTSD, boundaries, grief and loss, shame, substance use, self-esteem, chronic pain, depression, anxiety, life transitions, burn out, LGBTQ2+, identity, and spirituality.
